Osteopathy and pregnancy
Pregnancy is a period of great change and demand on the body.
Pregnancy is a period of great change and demand on the body. Osteopathy can be beneficial in:
- Helping the body adapt to the growing baby and easing any aches associated with postural changes.
- Gently and safely treating back pain, pelvic pain and sciatica.
- Easing any discomforts of pregnancy, including: headaches, sinus congestion, breathing difficulties, indigestion, rib pain, swollen hands and feet, varicose veins and haemorrhoids.
- In some cases, stabilising the pregnancy and preventing a threatened miscarriage.
- Encouraging the baby to lie in an optimum position for delivery, in the case of breach or back to back. With gentle stretches we encourage space around the baby, allowing gravity to float the baby into an optimum position for delivery and minimising risk of complication.
- Preparing the body for the demands of labour by ensuring there are no restrictions in pelvic mobility that may impede or slow down the birth process.
- Helping the mother recover from the labour by minimising the risk of ongoing back pain, stress incontinence, constipation, headaches, post-natal depression and more.
By arrangement, we carry out home and hospital ward visits.

"During my pregnancy, Annie has been especially impressive and knowledgeable about the changes my body has been going through and the best way of treating me to reduce my new aches and pains. I was also quite floored (and impressed!) that Annie knew I was pregnant before I did!"
